The idea of First Edition Clothing was birthed in November 2003. With 15 years of experience in the retail sector and having developed a love of fashion, we wanted to launch a range of practical and functional active wear. After doing the necessary research and ground work , our first range was launch in March 2004. The response was positive but it was not until May that year that First Edition Clothing would find its true purpose and focus.
By co-incidence one of our customers asked us to produce a leotard. This represented a challenge for two reasons. Firstly we had never considered ballet and dance wear as part of our range , and secondly we were unfamiliar with the technical requirements of constructing a leotard. However, we were curious and ambitious to see if we could pull it off and managed in the end to produce a garment that was well received. Little did we know at the time that the production of a single leotard would lead to the dramatic growth of our business. After 16 years of successful trading , ballet and dance wear has become the signature and essence of the First Edition label.
First Edition Clothing has become a strong and competitive brand of functional and high quality dance, ballet and stage apparel. We are privileged and humbled to work with some of South Africa’s most successful studios, schools, retailers and teachers and draw inspiration from this exciting community to keep our ranges innovative and on the cutting edge of design. It is hard to imagine that First Edition had its humble beginning in our garage, working off an ironing board, and is today a lucrative self – owned clothing factory.
First Edition now employs a staff of exceptionally skilled production personnel who come out of major swimwear and lingerie houses. Our mission is to design and produce a range of dance , ballet and stage wear that is well made and priced using our range of imported and exceptional fabrics. Our varied range of products all complement one another and have found their own special niche markets.
Our vision is to insure that First Edition Clothing will continue to meet the creative demands of our dynamic and expanding customer base.
